This mountain is seldom visited by bikers, but one of my favourite trails around here with very varied terrain, beautifull views and more than 700hm descend!
~40 min from Tromsø. There is a 100,-nok fee to cross the tunnel (per crossing) from the Kvaløya island to Malangen as of now (2014).
Difficulty: Intermediate/advanced (mostly due to steep technical part in the upper woods). Descend: ~20 min
Parking in front of the graveyard here (no pun intended!).
The beginning of the trail is marked by a «ti på topp» sign just opposite the parking. Follow the trail marked by red dots. Soon you’ll arrive at a fence with a little gate, don’t forget to close it behind you. During summer time there are sheep roaming around there, take care when you enjoy that sweet flow part on the way down in the lower woods! Next a steep and rocky/technical part follows up to the treeline. Mind your abilities when trying to bike that part. Above the treeline is a nice open flow trail into the valley and up towards Bakaromntinden (east). The trail marked with red dots is going straight up there. Ignore that and follow the sheep tracks a bit further into the valley. It will lead to to a more marked trail leading out of the valley to the foot of a steeper part again. Here the trail becomes less obvious. Again, the red dots lead straight up here, but try to find the stone piles which mark a more serpentine style trail up that part. On the upper ridge part, the trail is not very visible either, but there are regular stone markings all the way up to «bikers top». It is possible to go further by foot to the actual top ~200hm further up.
In the lower parts there are several easy trails with little elevation gain to explore, all of them leading more towards east below the Bakaromntinden ridge. Those are quite easy trails with a more x-country riding style.
